Mary Katherine Robinson Sherwood was born on July 1, 1935 to J.B. and Jessie Mary Robinson, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where she grew up with her older brother John Kenneth Robinson. On Sunday, March 15, 2020, Sherwood passed away and entered the arms of her precious Savior. “Mary Kay” or “Kay”, as she was affectionately called, was a long time member of the St. James Presbyterian Church in Tarzana, California where she sang in the choir and was well loved.
Kay Sherwood graduated from Ft. Smith Northside High School in 1953. Afterwards, she attended Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas before moving to Southern California. While working in the Los Angeles area, Sherwood met the love of her life, William “Bill” Sherwood. They wed on June 28, 1960 and were married for 31 years before his death in 1991. In 1967, Kay received her chiropractic degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College. After earning her degree, she and Bill worked together as chiropractors, serving their community where they were highly respected. Dr. Kay never remarried, but she learned to find joy and contentment through her faith in the Lord, her church, extended family, and her social activities. She was an active member of the Granada Hills Woman’s Club and other clubs and sororities.
Dr. Sherwood is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Bill Sherwood (1991), her brother, J. Kenneth Robinson (2018), and her sister-in-law, Addie Robinson (2019). She is survived by her four nieces and nephews: Libby Clifton (Bruce), John Mark Robinson (Carolyn), Mary Robin Newman (Patrick), and David Robinson, as well as 11 great grand nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends who loved and cherished her.
Due to the current health crisis and unforeseen circumstances, there will be no funeral at this time. A memorial service will be held for Dr. Sherwood to be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideon’s International in her memory.
