Born Willa J. Underhill in Blackville, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Katherine Elizabeth (Sturgeon) Underhill and of the late O’Dell James Underhill.
Willa grew up in Blackville, NB. Having graduated with Honors, she attended Teacher’s College in Fredericton, NB. She was employed with Bank of Nova Scotia in Doaktown, NB, and transferred to the branch in Campbellton, NB., where she married Gary Fournier of Ontario. She remained with Bank of Nova Scotia where she made many dear friends, until being recruited by the City of Campbellton where she was employed in the Finance Dept until retirement in 1994. An active member of the Campbellton Curling Club, she was an avid curler, and part-time tender of the bar, which would often find her burning up the dance floor with her dear friend and co-bartender, Nelson. She was also a representative of Avon, Mary Kay Cosmetics, and Regal Art & Gift. Not only did Willa love to dance, but she was also a huge fan of Country music, with a collection that would put the greatest of collectors to shame. She enjoyed playing horseshoe with friends at the cottage she so loved, and sing-alongs that often resulted with guitars. Willa had also been a bowler and shuffleboard enthusiast. She also loved the game of hockey, and was a staunch supporter of her children in their passions for hockey, and music, having rarely missed a game, or a late night gig. She lovingly cared for her elderly mother, Katie, and in her retirement years, enjoyed the company of her grandson, Craig, and later, granddaughter, Eliza, both of whom she was so proud.
She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Woods Meyers (Joe) of Campbellton,NB and son, Herb Fournier of Moncton, NB. She is also survived by her grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
