With gratitude and appreciation for a long and happy life, the family of Verna Munroe wishes to announce her passing which occurred peacefully at the Campbellton Nursing Home on May 21st at the grand old age of 91. Born in Flatlands on February 5th, 1927 she was the daughter of Alma (Downs) and William Bulmer.
Verna will be greatly missed by her daughters, Christine Jellett and Catherine Doull; Grandchildren Eric Doull (Alyson) of Scoudouc and Emily Good (Kyle) of Eel River Crossing and her great grandchildren Lilliana and Everleigh Doull and Addison Good.
In addition to her parents, Verna was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Munroe, brothers William, George, Orville and Frank Bulmer and her grandson Roderick Jellett.
Verna was a Registered Nurse and proud to have graduated from the Soldiers Memorial Hospital. She was nurse to the neighbourhood children and pets.She comforted the sick, always gave out medical advice freely and was on call for emergencies, both human and animal. She comforted many a stray cat and loved them all.
Verna was a founding member of the Caledonian Society of Restigouche, active in the First Baptist Church and served on the Board of Directors for the building of Bursey Towers. She was an avid gardener, a talented knitter and well known for her egg and tomato sandwiches. Her sweets and pies were favourites at all the social functions.
Her proudest role in life was that of a grandmother. She loved her grandchildren and was blessed to share in their growing up and being part of their adult years. Her long life allowed her to see her three great grandchildren become part of her family.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care and compassion provided by all staff at the Campbellton Nursing Home.
Safe journey to our Matriarch; we were blessed to have you guide us on our life's adventures. Her memory will live on in her stories which she took great pleasure in sharing at all the family functions.
A funeral service will be held at Maher’s Funeral Chapel, 64 Lansdowne St., Campbellton, Saturday at 2:00 pm
Visitation at Maher’s Funeral Home, 33 Lansdowne St., Campbellton, Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00.
Donations to the Campbellton Village Nursing Home or SPCA would be appreciated by the family.
