

Thomas A. Metalic Sr of Listuguj, Quebec passed away at the age of 72 years on December 14, 2010 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital from complications following a massive stroke suffered in September 2008. He was surrounded by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, brother, nieces and nephews.
Thomas Metallic was born in Listuguj on June 21, 1938 to Joseph Metallic Sr. and Isabel Jo of Burnt Church NB. His parents were deceased at an early age and his sister Madeline (Adoe) Metallic raised him. On November 17, 1962, he married Madeline Cloud formally of Eel Ground First Nation, NB. One brother, Louis, residing in Listuguj, survives him.
Throughout his life, Thomas held many different positions to support his family. Of the more notable are iron worker and in approximately last 25 years he held the position of Ranger (salmon fisheries on the Restigouche River). Thomas was always proud to be a Ranger patrolling on the Restigouche. He worked until the age of 70 years.
Thomas was an avid baseball player and played in organized baseball leagues in Listuguj. Later, he was often called upon to Umpire the many games held at the local ball field. One of his most favorite hobby and pastime was horseshoes. Many will remember the great matches they had with Tom. Thomas and Madeline were also members of the Friday Night Crib League in Campbellton and he always fondly remembered the many crib players he met.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 48 years, Madeline and one daughter Delphine and her husband Brian Isaac of Listuguj. He is also survived by his three grandchildren: Alicia Beth, Brian Jefferson and Yasmine Lynn all of Listuguj.
Thomas was predeceased by two sons: Ira Wayne Metallic, aged 11 (deceased 1979) and Thomas Jefferson, aged 23 (deceased 1986). He is also predeceased by his brothers Joseph, Alphonse, Robert and Murvin and his sisters Josephine Isaac, Rita Gideon, Madeline Metallic and Mary Augustine (Red Bank).
Funeral arrangements were in the care of Mahers Funeral home. Visitation was held at the home of his daughter Delphine at 45B Riverside West, Listuguj Quebec. Funeral Mass was celebrated at the St. Anne’s Church in Listuguj Quebec on Friday, December 17, at 11 a.m. officiated by Father Landry. Readings were done by Brenda Murray and Eva Mitchell and prayers to the faithful read by his Goddaughter Carol Baun Metallic. Alter servers were nephews Wendell Metallic and Alec Metallic. The choir sang beautiful Mi’gmaq Hymms.
The procession from the home to the church was lead by Listuguj Ranger’s boats and trucks. Pallbears were the Listuguj Rangers: Corey Metallic, Sherman Isaac, Phillip Barnaby, Sonny Condo, Paul Brisk and Pernell Wysote. Honorary Pallbears were Listuguj Rangers: Thomas (Tittle) Metallic, Lammie Metallic, Peter Metallic, Clinton Sorbey, Sweeny Condo
A beautiful reception organized and sponsored by members of the community was held directly following the funeral mass. The family is deeply grateful for the support and many kind expressions of sympathy offered during our time of sorrow. Also remembered with gratitude are Thomas’ Brother, nieces, nephews and friends who came by the hospital and offered their support. It is your kind acts of generosity and compassion that eases our heavy hearts.
Thomas’ family also extend heartfelt gratitude to the Listuguj Nurses and Staff: Lynn, Francoise, Madeline, Leila, Mary Lou, Jennifer, Dolores, Maureen, Betty, Samatha, Donnie and many others from the staff who take such wonderful care of our elderly and sick in the community. Welalieg! From time to time, Tom was at the CLSC Matapedia Long-term Care facility and we extend our warm thoughts and gratefulness for the staff’s excellent care. We also thank Henry Rice, who provided in-home care, and most importantly companionship. Tom always looked forward to Henry’s arrival, especially the news he would bring with him!
Thomas: Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Friend are some of what we will remember, but most of all, we will remember Tom driving down the road on his 4-wheeler, smiling and waving at others. Rest in Peace Dad.
