Some of my favourite memories of childhood involved going over to Uncle Ray’s store and picking out treats and snacks! He’d sometimes even let me pick out something for free, which I know was a big deal! 

Uncle Ray, we will all miss you so much. No matter the time or day, you always were so welcoming with a big smile on your face! I will be forever thankful that my daughter got to meet her great uncle Ray this past summer!

Some of my earliest memories in New Brunswick include going into Uncle Ray’s store eyeing all the candy and treats. It was the only place I could just say “put it on mom’s tab” and take whatever I wanted. For a kid with a sweet tooth it was heaven. 

When I got older it was even better visiting the store because I could sit with my family and Uncle Ray and join their conversations and listen to all Uncle Ray’s stories, sometimes over a beer and a pickled egg.

It’s amazing seeing all the comments of how much he meant to the community and it was easy to see when you spent any time in the store by the amount of people who would grab a pop out of the fridge and pull up a stool for a visit.

We’ll miss you, Uncle Ray! Thanks for introducing us to the Palomine bar this summer, something we’ll forever enjoy! :).

Ray was a solid fixture in the village, my neighbour, my very close friend, and a successful, hard working guy. One of the toughest, most determined men I have known. He was an inspiration and instilled knowledge and values in the youth who were fortunate enough to spend time around him. He said it like it was. He played the cards he was dealt with pride. Sitting here reading the above messages of condolences brings tears to my eyes.  I have never seen anyone touch the hearts of so many in a small community.  Whether you were young or old we all have memories of going to Rays.  Glen Levit will not be the same without you Ray but we will keep the memories we shared with you in our hearts forever. Glen Levit won't be the same for sure without you Raymond....one of the best life-long friends a person could have...I for one will sure miss him. I am sorry to hear about the lost. Growing up I will always remember going to Ray's Canteen. He was always such a nice man to us children wanting to buy chips candies and pop.

Ray was a great friend to all. Three generations of my family enjoyed Ray’s store . I remember the pool table and junk box .My boys hung out there in their teens and even my Grandaugther Maddie went there when she came up country . His sense of humour and quick wit was always there . Fly with the angels and Rest In Peace 

I'm sorry for your loss Ray was a good friend of mine we work at the Atholville churh and we went to work in Toronto.Ray will be miss. My sympathy to all friends and family..


Ray canteen was a place of support and always a place for all of us. Growing up. Remember times of going there. I think my brother  Rodney spent half his life there.  He shall be missed by all.

It has been years since I moved away but always stopped in to say hi when we were home for a visit.   Ray, you will be missed by many.

Nous allions en famille fin Juin et debut juillet 1 a 2 semaines chez cette merveilleuse famille tres acceuillante dont Ray faisais parti avec ses freres et ses soeurs. C'étais dans les années 1960 a 1970 . J'ai bien eu du plaisir avec lui on a jouer des tours a plusieurs personnes  . Un que je me souviens bien on avais caché dans la boite au lettre de la Cantine un Walkie talkie qui bien sur parlais quand arrivais un client ou un ami  faut dire que d'en ces années la les Walkie talkie etais pas trop connu chaque personne ce demandais ce qui ce passais et certain fesais tout un saut celle la il la bien aimé il m'en a reparler souvent qu'en on ce voyais .Une belle famille bien unis que je salut et je suis triste d'avoir apris le déces de mon cousin bon courage a vous tous. Repose en paix Ray.

Our sympathies to the family and friends of this community.  Growing up as a kid Ray's place was well known from our parents and he welcomed us teens.  Ray always had a smile and had a warm welcoming heart to any visitors like family.   Even after 32 years of leaving home I always made that attempt to drop in each year to say hello.  R.I.P Ray until we met again. 

I would like to send my condoleances to everyone concerned. I will always remember that little arcade, jukebox, pool table space you had at the store, were a bunch of us (teens) use to hang out! You just loved to see us there, knew everyone of us & you never stop anyone from going as long as we we're respectable! Thx Ray for those great memories! R.I.P now Xxx

The Blanchette family and our family were almost like one when we were children.  Ray bounced around with the younger boys who became fast friends later in life around his store.  He will be missed in the community and my condolences go out to the remaining family.

My  deepest condolences to the entire Blanchette family.  A death of a friend is always  hard to take and  Rays passing is the hardest thus far.  His work ethic and keen sense of humour along with caring about his family, neighbours and community  have  earned him a place in so many hearts.  In your time of reflection  and grief please  take some comfort in knowing you are not along.  Ray will be forever be in my memory.  A number 1 guy in every way.  

Condolences to the family I remember stopping at rays on my way home each night to have a chat help him close up, fill the furnace and say good nite , sometime party way too late. My wife remembers playing pool and listening to the jukebox box, RIP

Ray you will be missed by many. You taught me to play crib and to this day I still enjoy the game.  Burns still tells stories of when you guys were younger. Rest In Peace.
