Born in Moncton, New Brunswick on June 29, 1923, he was the son of the late Charles H. Gilbert and the late Verlie Barclay Gilbert.
Charlie was a World War II Veteran, where he served in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Campbellton Branch, as well as a Mason with the Campbellton Masonic Lodge #32, F & AM.
Charlie worked for the CN Railway for many years and was a maintenance supervisor until retirement.
He was a huge sports fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, the Toronto Maple Leafs and, of course, the Campbellton Tigers where he’d never miss a game, until the time came when he could no longer attend.
He is survived by his daughters Gail Fitzpatrick (Eddy), June Harris (Stan), his sons Mike (Suzanne) and Allen, as well as Gerry Gilbert (Mike and Allen’s mother) and the extended Keays family. He is also survived by his grandchildren Todd, Kelly, Angela, Robyn, Charles, Jonathan, Robert, Jason and his great-grandchildren Ryan, Kara, Joseph, Samuel, Darcy, Ada, Jordyn, Elizabeth, James, Kayleigh, Theo and Sally. He was predeceased by his son Stephen (Nancy), granddaughter Lori, his wife Joyce (Gordon) and his wife Gilberte (Goudreau).
The family would like to thank the staff of the Veterans Ward who were so kind to him. The family would also like to thank Tracy Adams, Charlie’s caregiver for many years. She was always so good to him and his little dog, Chuckles.
Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no service at this time.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Maher’s Funeral Home, Campbellton.
