Mike was born in Moncton, New Brunswick to Mary and G. Barrie Rody on November 23, 1945. At the age of 17 Mike joined the Navy and enjoyed his time on the aircraft carrier HMCS Bonaventure. At the age of 20 he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Baden-Baden, Germany for four years before settling at Comox Airbase where he served in Search and Rescue, and was a Metal Technician in Aircraft Repair. He met his wife Jill while on vacation in Oregon in 1971. After 12 years with the armed forces, he went to work at CR Island Air and CR Boatland, before becoming a BC Provincial Parks Ranger at Miracle Beach, where he retired after 40 years of service.
He is survived by his brothers Pat ( Therese); Philip, and sister -in-law Melva Rody; his loving wife Jill of 53 years, as well as their children and families: Mary(David) and their children Jacob, Eli, Grayson, Chris, Brittany, Melany and Lane; Beth(Brad) and their children, Hadley and Finley; and Andrew(Kelly) and their children, Keileen, Nova, and Mikey. He was predeceased by his parents and older brother Barrie.
Mike was a hard worker and was always busy whether it was running Mike’s Trophy House, volunteering for the RCMP Victims Assistance program, volunteering as a captain for the Oyster River Fire Department, or working handyman jobs for friends.
Mike had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, boating and camping. He also loved playing, coaching and watching hockey. He was a devoted Papa and loved spending time with his grandkids, his dogs, and sharing Armchair Sports and a Starbucks coffee with Jill.
