Mary R. Appleby entered eternal life on Friday, July 3, 2015. Her spirit is carried on by her husband, Neil, five daughters, Mary Ann, Betsy, Kathleen, Cornelia, and Margaret; five grandchildren, Tige Sommerfeld, Frank and Joseph Tamanini, Elizabeth Sommerfeld, and Laila Mary Rose Keadan; sons-in-law, Paul Sommerfeld and Manny Borbon; and two surviving sisters, Jane Weiers and Elizabeth Kirlik. Mary was a “dog person” and left behind a loyal, loving bichon, Phoebe, who longs for her.
Mary was born on November 22, 1930 and raised in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Harry Snyder and Hilda Hoke Snyder. Mary loved her country, The Constitution, and never missed voting in an election. Mary attended Seton Hill College and joined the Navy in 1952. She was a journalist and the Editor of Fly Magazine. In 1959, Mary married her husband Neil in Pensacola, FL where they were both stationed. They were married for fifty-six years.
Mary devoted her life to her family. She was a completely selfless Mother who set the gold standard. Mary was creative and passionate about everything she did in life. She was the enemy of “good enough.” Mary embodied compassion and was always a champion for the underdog. The love and legacy of Mary R. Appleby will live forever.
The inurnment will be at Columbarium Indiantown Gap National Cemetery
