Marilyn was born October 19, 1937, to the late Nova and Lorraine Gilliatte, in Crawfordsville, Indiana. She later settled in the Greater Harrisburg Area in 1962.
Believing as Aldo Leopold states "To save a flower it may be necessary to rescue a planet". Sue Daugherty devoted a significant portion of her life to environmental education, natural resource management and legislation. Beginning with her garden club in 1963 she has covered the full range of environmental chairmanships, working in conservation of air, land, water, People and their environment, American Land Trust and energy awareness. She served on all levels of garden club endeavor including Energy Awareness Chairman of the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania, Air Quality Chairman of the Central Atlantic Region and the National Council, Inc. Among the many successes which she coordinated was Save the Appalachian Trail, Cancer Cause - The Environmental Connection and Save our Rare Plants. Sue also participated in forming the Conservation Action Network along with forming an Environmental Education Master Plan for Pennsylvania that eventually went nationwide. Marilyn made her livelihood working in real-estate sales and marketing, and was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors for 30 years.
Surviving her are her husband of 32 years, John Ogurcak; her son Patrick M. Daugherty and her daughters Dianna Zink and Marilyn McConnell; her brothers Nova and Steve Gilliatte and her sisters Adrienne Woessner, Patricia Hatton and Joyce Webb. She has six grandchildren: Andrew, Patrick Jr., Alana, Michael, Abigail and Jordan and six great-grandchildren: Cohen, Caleb, Gabriel, Zoey, Axel and Dani.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Gerry and Michael Gilliatte.
A memorial service will be held Saturday June 8, 2019 at the Neill Funeral Home; 3401 Market Street, Camp Hill, PA at 2:00pm. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00pm until the time of services.
