Lori was an incredible mother to her two daughters, Kaity and Maura, and a loving wife of 37 years to her husband, John. Lori grew up in Scranton and lived only a few blocks away from John, but the two did not meet until they were both working in the Washington, D.C. area in their young twenties, where Lori moved after graduating from Penn State. The two instantly fell in love and were married within a year.
Lori Ford was born in Scranton, PA, to Thomas and Aline Ford. She had one brother, Thomas Ford. She grew up in the Green Ridge neighborhood of Scranton, and spent summers on Lake Winola with her parents, grandmother, brother, aunt, uncle, and cousins. Lori shared countless wonderful memories of being at “The Lake.”
Lori adored Hilton Head Island, and after vacationing there for over 20 years with their girls, she and John fulfilled a lifelong dream and purchased a home on Hilton Head in the Leamington community in 2019. Lori always found peace by the water. She enjoyed walking on the beach, riding her bike, and spending time with John, her girls, her sons-in-law, and her furry little shadow, chocolate lab, Teddy. Lori felt blessed to spend so much time in Hilton Head in 2020 and 2021.
Lori had a wonderful and wide circle of friends, who all knew her to be a thoughtful, compassionate, gracious, and generous person. Her smile could light up a room! Lori enjoyed traveling, entertaining friends and family, and was a fabulous cook. She was incredibly empathetic and made family, friends, and acquaintances feel special and loved by sending cards and providing encouragement during both happy and difficult times.
Lori is preceded in death by her mother, father, and her grandmother Raye, who was a second-mom to Lori. Although she was only ten years old when she lost her own mother to cancer, Lori was always able to over-power the grief she faced with joyous and happy memories. During the holidays, an often difficult time to remember loved ones who have passed, Lori shared stories of her parents and grandmother with a smile on her face. May God give us the strength to do the same whenever we think of her.
Over the past 22 years, Lori courageously battled cancer with grace. Through it all, she remained incredibly positive. She was fiercely grateful for and aware of the present moment, and lived her life without fear of the future. Throughout her battle, Lori provided guidance, support, and comfort to countless other women who were also battling cancer. Lori was a member of a cancer support group that she held very close to her heart, referring to her fellow members as her angels on earth.
Lori will forever be an incredible role model for her husband and daughters. May we all honor
her spirit through kindness and compassion.
Lori is survived by her husband John; her daughter Kaitlin Goetzman and her husband, Andrew; her daughter Maura Morris and her husband, Brian; her brother Tom Ford and his wife, Bev; her beloved nephew Chris Ford and his wife, Allison; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
