Elizabeth Richey McHugh, 34, of Annville, formerly of Seattle, WA, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital, Camp Hill following her battle with kidney disease. Beth was vibrant and fun to be around and her spirit and courage were admired by her medical providers during these months.
Beth was born August 24, 1983, in Harrisburg and she is survived by her mother, Anne M. Leisure, of Annville and her husband Randall; her father, Eugene N. McHugh, of Mechanicsburg and his wife Deborah; brother Gene McHugh and his wife Ann Hirsch of Los Angeles; step-sisters Nicole Popovich and husband Eric of Greensboro North Carolina, Kristen Penn and husband Joshua of Marysville PA, and Kaity Leisure Moreira of Chicago, ILL; step-brother Zachary Leisure of Highland Park, NJ; her grandmother Kathleen McHugh of Mechanicsburg; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces.
Beth grew up in Camp Hill and graduated from Camp Hill High School. She received her BA in East Asian Studies from the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University, her BSN from Drexel University and was pursuing a Masters in Nursing and Global Public Health at University of Washington. She was a dedicated and caring nurse and was recognized by her hospital and peers for her skill and compassion in the field of nursing.
Beth had an adventurous spirit and loved traveling. As a high school student she participated in the Rotary Student Exchange program, spending a school year in Taiwan. As a college student, she spent a semester in Beijing. She spent one summer backpacking through Europe and visiting friends from her times as an exchange student. After graduating from college, she journeyed to India to teach English to Tibetan refugees.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 16, 2018 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Cathedral, 221 N. Front St., Harrisburg. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, June 15, 2018 in the Neill Funeral Home, 3401 Market St., Camp Hill. A reception will follow the service at the Dauphin County Bar Association. A private burial will be held in Rolling Green Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
