Ruth was predeceased by her parents Joseph (Raymond) and Mary Jane Johnson; sisters Alberta Johnson, Jennie (Alfio) Papotto, Betty (William) Hoch, Barbara (Thomas) Caskenette; and brothers Leslie Johnson and Jack (Jessie) Johnson. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by sister Mary Jane (Late Thomas) Jackson; niece Marysarina (William) Brueckner and many nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews and great-great nieces/nephews; but especially great nieces/nephews Angela Yantha, Philip Brueckner, Daniel Brueckner, Julie Brueckner, and Michael (Fatima) Brueckner and the great-greats Anthony, Alex, Alicia, and Aiden Yantha, Tyson and Reece Brueckner, William Cutler, and Myles Brueckner.
On July 28, 1934, Raymond and Mary Jane Johnson welcomed their new baby girl into the family in Galt, Ontario. Ruth was the 5th of 8 children. Ruth never married, deciding to stay at home and help take care of her mother. In 1960, Ruth started her career at Cambridge Towel as a textile worker, sewing towels, face cloths, and blankets. After 39 years of hard work, Ruth retired on her 65th birthday.
Over the years, Ruth was an active volunteer in the community. She spent many years serving the residents of Fairview Mennonite Home, providing baked goods and serving tea in the Tea Room. Ruth was also an avid knitter and could be found knitting sweaters and hats to be donated to those in need. Ruth was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it, and she had a smile for everyone she met. It was not uncommon for Ruth to visit the sick and shut-ins, bringing homemade meals and snacks to brighten their day. She also volunteered in the kitchen at Temple Baptist Church during special events.
Ruth loved to play bingo with her friends every week at the W. G. Johnson Center and the local bingo halls. She was also a member of the senior bowling team and her team even won the league championship a few times. Along with these activities, Ruth enjoyed playing cards and could often be found carrying a food tray to share as she played. She also regularly attended Ladies Morning Break and prayer group at the church. When Ruth was home, she enjoyed writing and could be found with one of many notepads. Ruth's favourite thing to do was read and study the Bible. She enjoyed writing down her prayers as love letters to her Lord and Saviour.
At the age of 16, Ruth dedicated her life to God, accepted His gift of salvation, and was baptized a few months later. For much of her life, Ruth was a valued member at Temple Baptist Church, where she attended and was always ready to lend a hand when needed. Ruth had a strong faith in God and looked forward to being in His presence one day. She always strove to be a light for Christ and to share His love with those she met. Her prayer was to be used by God in any way He wanted. Ruth often wrote letters and included special Bible verses or Biblical insights that she believed would be beneficial to the receiver of the letter. She loved her family and made every effort to ensure everyone knew they were loved.
