John (Joao) Botelho passed away peacefully on December 20, 2015 at the age of 93. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Gilda Botelho (Correia) in 1985. In 1957, he journeyed from Portugal to Canada, and became a proud Canadian. John will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his children Joseph Botelho, Lucy Grant (Sebastiao), Maria Godin (Richard), Margaret Pedro (Al), and Susan Bairos (Joe). Adored by his eleven grandchildren and their spouses: Jennifer Watson, Amanda Isley (Mike), Andrew Botelho (Elysia), Daniel Botelho, Mathew Botelho (Melissa), Stephanie de Vries, Rick Godin, John Pedro (Wendy), Angela Macauley (Patrick), Lindsay Bairos (Chris), and Jessica Bairos (Sean). Cherished by his 15 great-grandchildren: McKeela, Wil, Easten, Adelyn, Colten, Aaliyah, Eli, Kendra, Kristyn, Jacob, Autumn, Hope, Nate, Ethan, and Liam. Treasured by his siblings Verissimo Botelho Nunes, Cortilida Gouveia, Daniel Botelho Nunes, Emilia Marques, and Louisa Carvalho. Predeceased by his siblings Maria dos Anjos Botelho (2000), Herculano Botelho (2008), and Carlos Botelho Nunes (2001). A visitation will be held at Barthel Funeral Home (566 Queenston Road, Cambridge, Ontario, N3H 3J8, (519) 653-3251) on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church (745 Duke Street, Cambridge, Ontario) on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Parklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Lori, John’s personal support worker.
