Douglas Gary Booth age 79, of Cambridge, Ontario passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 24, 2022. Loving husband of Jennifer Louks; proud father of Andrew (Tiara), Sarah Jane (Jon); stepfather to Tamara (Dave), Tonja (Jeff), Trevor (Jessie d.2020), Daniel (Jean) and Darcy; grandfather to Talen, Raven, Cassady, Connor, Tinisha, Darian, Courtney, Ethan, Bryson, Samantha, Jackson, Ryder, Cheyanne, Raiden, Chester, Ariel, Jake and Kody; great grandfather to Alex, Ivy, Damon, Peyton and Mason. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his brother John; nieces Karen (Dave) and Linda (Ted); nephews Marcel and Michel (Ainslie) and their children Saara-Mya, David Jr., Sonya, Emory and Maddox.
Doug graduated from the University of Toronto majoring in history and philosophy eliciting a lifelong passion for military history, especially Napoleon, and a love of debate and the use of the English language. His proclivity for words led to a career culminating as Director of Corporate Communications for Sun Life of Canada. Doug is a past member of the Mensa Canada Society, president of the Opimian Society and board member of Family and Children's Services Waterloo Region, among others. He was an active foster parent for the past 20 years with many memorable trips to Wasaga Beach with up to 9 children at a time.
In his retirement Doug filled his days with reading, painting, gardening and growing his extensive collection of military figurines. His professional and social circles nurtured many gatherings and long time friendships. Doug will be dearly missed by all those who meant so much to him.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Doug's life will be held on Saturday November 19th from 2 - 4:30pm at The Venue in the Cambridge Hotel and Conference Centre, 700 Hespeler Rd, Cambridge. Slide show starting at 2:20 followed by two of his friends speaking. Refreshments and wine served with time to mingle and enjoy memories.
