I enjoyed many lovely, early career years with both you and Dave. I moved to the UK and so many years passed and we sadly lost touch. I am back in Canada and tried to look you up but found this sad but lovely tribute to Dave. I had the pleasure of knowing Dave both professionally and personally and he was always so much fun and full of banter. Yes, he did tease me relentlessly but I loved it!! Always good natured and level headed, I'm sure he is greatly missed by you and your family. I am so sorry for your loss Diane and hope that we can get back in touch soon.

I just found out that Dave passed away. I’m at a loss for words and don’t understand why the good, gentle people are taken far too early from their family and friends.

Dave always called me “ Gertrude “ in high school. I’m not sure why he did, but he always smirked and had a big grin on his face when he said it. The more I asked him why he called me Gertrude...he would just laugh and tease me more.

Diane,  Heaven has another angel in their band now. May your memories and his love for you help during this difficult time. Love never dies and until you meet again .

Judy and I knew Dave for a very short time, but we had said that “there was a fella that we wanted to get to know more”.  Such a cheerful soul. 

Dave and I were the two father-in-laws in the Ben and Sarah marriage.  Without any planning we seemed to both adopt the same approach to our role...lots of love mixed with healthy doses of humour, embarrassing and occasionally inappropriate comments plus (hopefully) some good advice and guidance.  It’s hard to imagine Dave not being around to continue that.  All I can promise is to work twice as hard to try to fill some of the gap.  Rest In Peace Dave.

My condolences to Diane and the family. 'Goodie' was a very good friend to me in our youth and I'm very saddened to learn of  his passing. 
We spent many hours as pool rats around the Beaches in Toronto and I can think of many Malvern memories - music, band, Bark Lake, swim team etc.
I can still see that little smirk he would get on his face as he would deliver a sarcastic barb to an unwitting victim. But, he was always kind at heart and a great guy! I will celebrate those memories...

Dave was truly one of the kindest co-workers I've ever had the privilege to work with in my 28 years at the Region of Waterloo.   His sense of humour and his willingness to help regardless of how busy he was is a testament to the kind of human being he was.  He spoke lovingly and often of his family and I'm incredibly heartbroken for your loss.  Life is forever altered by such an incredible loss and words do not suffice, but wishing you some comfort in days, months, and years ahead. Forever missed by many.

To everyone that knew Dave he was  one of a kind. So genuine, always ready with a smile, and a humorous spin on situations, you could sense the good vibe about him. I was fortunate to train with Dave when he became an Intake Coordinator at the Region. It was a very sad day when we heard that this lovely person is no longer here with us on a daily basis. Dave was truly one of the good guys. Anyone who knew him will tell you of his sense of humour, his loyalty, his integrity, and his intelligence. But what I will remember most about Dave is the twinkle he always got in his eye right when he said something inspired, kind, or witty. The twinkle was twice as bright when sarcasm was involved.  I’ll remember Dave any time I look up the stars, for they twinkle the same way. I like to think one of those stars is Dave watching over us, at something inspired, kind, or witty. Goodbye friend.

Dave was such an amazing person.  He was genuine, sincere,  could easily make you laugh and always had family first.  He sincerely is a landmark at the Region, (and for all the right reasons).  He was and will always be a huge part of my career.   He had it all and was willing to share it.  Compassion, sympathy, empathy, with the computer savvy part.  What will stand out most for me is his sense of humour and laugh.  Not like a giggle but we had genuine belly laughs.  He rooked me into the Region, taught me, and had my back all at once.

There is no true comfort.  We say time is.  Yet I believe the memories are.  Hold on to them.

Dave was an amazing person, I have known Dave as a co-worker for many years but last year he moved to the first floor and was stationed across from me   We are both at work by 7am every morning so often times we would joke about who would get in first.  We would walk from the parking garage into the building and watch the sunrise and I was honored to  hear so many wonderful stories about his wife and family.  Coming in to work these past few days has felt empty.  I miss that wonderful smile and friendly “Good Morning”.  He has made an imprint on all of us and will be greatly missed.

Jennifer and I are saddened to hear of Dave's passing. We fondly remember our group hug at St. Jacob's during the most recent Drayton Theatre performance and the games we played last Summer at the trailer. These will always be wonderful memories. For the many years I worked with Dave at the Region, I always knew him to be very knowledgeable, pleasant and always willing to help and share his knowledge.  I loved his humour.  It sometimes appeared when least expecting it.  Dave and I were very much surprised to learn one night at dinner at The Docks that not only did we both have trailers in Bayfield, but that they are actually in the same park.  With him being such a quiet person,  even though I walk around the park a lot (even more now that we live there) with my dog(s) in tow, we barely saw each other.  Dave was truly a unique individual - one of the good ones.  My thoughts and prayers go out to you.  Such a loss.  Hold onto those many, many good memories and if you need someone to reach out to while you are here, do not hesitate

I had the pleasure of getting to know Dave through work over the past several years. He is one of the most kind-hearted, patient, compassionate and decent people I've ever known.  He was brilliantly funny and witty. He has no doubt touched the lives of many people and done so quietly and humbly. My deepest sympathy to his wife, children and family. He spoke of you often and with so much love and care. Gone way to soon, I will miss you, my friend, my other 'book-end' as you called us on the 6th floor. 


Dear Diane and family. We are saddened to hear about Dave. His kindness and infectious smile will always be remembered. Our evenings at Drayton will not be the same without him. We will remember the good times spent playing games on the deck at the Gauthier's trailer. Dave will be missed dearly. 

From my first user support request, to my time as his teammate, to a short time as his supervisor, Dave was just the best.  When I was fuzzy, he was clear, when I stressed he was kind. He didn't just provide answers, he took care of the person asking the question, building them up as he did his work.  I will miss his life advice - relationships, parenting, work, he was a resource in all areas - and always made me laugh.  I will miss him so very much.  

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Dave was a gentle kind man that I had the privilege of working with.   He always took the time to stop and chat and smile and laugh. He will be truly missed by many of us.  

So many of us are left with a heavy heart hearing the news of David's passing. He was far to young and a beautiful person inside and out. My sincerest condolences to David's family and friends. I am so sorry to hear about Dave's passing. I worked closely with Dave for many years. He made time for any question I had. He also made time for fun. He was there whenever needed.  What a great sense of humour - such a rapier wit.  I cannot believe he is gone. My sincerest condolences to his family. He spoke lovingly and often about you.  

I began working at the Region in Cambridge in 1990. I knew Dave as a committed and caring caseworker. I moved to the Waterloo office a few years later.  When Dave relocated to the Waterloo office it was great reconnecting with him.  

My most noted memories of Dave include his smile and laughter. Dave  was always willing to help and support others.  Dave's desk and work area has been located on the same floor as me for awhile now. His daily presence and energy and brightness will be missed by myself and all who had the honor of knowing Dave both as a colleague and as a friend.

There are no words that I can say about this wonderful friend, He was father husband and friend to so many .I always said he was the kindest gentlest person that I have ever know . I can’t believe he  is gone .My deepest sympathy goes out to his entire family.

These words of condolence by all of these people that Dave has managed to touch all of their hearts and lives in such a happy, positive and loving way only reinforces the fond memories that I will always cherish of him; growing up, his ever present and infectious smile when we came to visit my Uncle Harry and Aunt Loretta on Lea Ave in Toronto, his genuine interest in anything I had to say despite being eight years my senior, he taught me how to play Colour My World by Chicago on the piano and even took the time to take my sister and I swimming and walks around Toronto, he has always been in my thoughts and heart in the spaces between and will always remain so, my heart goes out to Diane and family, Uncle Harry, Mary Jean and Jim as Dave has most certainly left a hole that can never be filled.

Dave was a remarkably kind and genuine man and defined the phrase, "one of the good guys." His loss is enormous. I simply felt better after having chatted with him. He was quick to help, quick to smile, was whip smart, and had a way of making you feel that things would be ok.  Dave truly cared about his colleagues and spoke up in defense of them when something wasn't right. His investment in others was obvious. He leaves shoes that won't be easily filled. Rest in peace Dave.

I'm struggling to write this message. Dave was my coworker; but, most importantly I was privileged to call him my friend. He was the best friend anyone could have.  He would never judge, knew when to be serious and knew when to make you laugh. We shared many stories and lunches, always fighting over whose turn it was to pay. He was kind and generous always willing to help.  He will certainly be missed by all who knew him.

My sympathies go out to the entire family.  Daily, Dave worked with commitment, dedication, offered kindness and a delightful sense of humour. Dave was an amazing Grandfather to my daughter Shaelynn. She adored her Papa and their bond was very strong! He will be forever in our hearts. I know he will always be watching over Shaelynn and I.

I remember the day Dave started at the region  he made me laugh as he always did. I was very young and he was so supportive and always willing to help when I needed it.  He always had a smile on his face and so positive how can anyome say no to him. He even convinced me to take his hamspter that no was looking after anymore. Dave is going to be missed by so many people. 

I can not express how shocked I was at hearing of David's passing.  I am still struggling with it and feel certain that someone, whomever, has taken the wrong guy.  I want to express my condolences to Davids family for their untimely loss.  David was a good man. He truly loved his family and his good humor was always appreciated.  He seemed to bring the sunshine with him wherever he went. 

David....if you haven't left yet. There isn't anything I can tell you that you don't already know and I am a better person for having known you. God speed on your journey.  May we meet again somewhere down the road.

I have many fond memories of Dave, his kindness, his quick wit, and his willingness to jump in and help others are a large part of these memories.  It has been a pleasure working with him over the years.

I too would echo Roxanne Pendergast's thoughts. I worked with Dave throughout his Regional career and have great memories of his time as a supervisor. Dianne, Ben and Joel - I worked with Dave for more than 25 years.  I feel the world is a much poor place without him in it.   When I think of Dave, I think of a man who was ethical, principled, funny, warm and kind - always kind.  We had amazing times together.  He could always be depended on to help - and go ten extra miles for anyone who needed it.    His loss will be felt amongst so many and for a very long time.
