Bernie is the beloved husband to Donna (nee Churchill) of 42 years, loving father to Ashley (Norman) and Brittany and he was an amazing and very proud Poppy to his two best little buddies Emmett and Rory. Dearest brother to Patrick (Joanne), Sheila (George) Basha, Kevin (Lorraine), Mary (John) Murphy, Angela (Mike) McNamara, Elizabeth Young, Raymond (Marilyn), Theresa Wylie (Rick Faulkner), Robert (Margaret), Christine (Dino) Marrocco and brother in law to Carol Myers, Susan Cooke, Frank (Trudy) Churchill, Bernice (Allan) Tarrant and Maureen (Mark) Cromwell. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family and several friends. While our hearts are broken with such a tremendous loss, we are comforted by knowing he has joined his family that has gone before him. He would often talk about how much he missed his family and friends. Predeceased by his parents Patrick and Elizabeth (nee Byrne), brothers Johnny, Thomas, William, his brother in law Jim Young and his parents-in-law Frederick Churchill and Bridget (nee Myler).
Bernie, or “Mr. Myers” as he liked to say everyone knew him, brought laughter to everyone around him. Whether he was laughing with you or at your expense, there was never a shortage of laughs when he was around. He liked the simple things that life had to offer, golfing and fishing – especially trips taken with “the boys” and keeping his car in meticulous condition. He kept active, with his daily walks or bike rides around the neighbourhood and his gift of gab meant that he got to know many of the neighbours over the years. His greatest joy by far came with his new title “Poppy”. He was never too tired to play with his boys. From their daily after school snacks, swimming at the pool or weekends spent playing catch or soccer in the yard he cherished their time spent together. Family meant everything to Bernie and he was blessed to have such a large and tight knit one. From his childhood until his last day, his life was rich with so much love.
