Allan Duane Gray passed away on November 15, 2017, in his 86th year, after a battle with cancer. Allan is survived by his wife Maureen (nee Spring), children Caren Clemens (Peter), Michael (Linda), Andrew, Derek (Kim Mordaunt), grandchildren Nicole (Clemens) Schnarr (Nathan) and Jon Clemens (Jenine), siblings Frank (Audrey), Bernice Dowhaniuk (Ed) and Earl (Faye) and brother in-law Henry Grieman. Predeceased by his parents Oliver and Evelyn and siblings Leroy and June Grieman.
Al was born in Mason City, Iowa and raised on the family farm in the Kennedy/Langbank area of Saskatchewan. Allan moved to Preston, where he met his wife Maureen on a blind date on Friday, September 13, 1957 and they were married on July 19, 1958.
Al and Maureen raised their four children in Preston while Al worked his entire career at Babcock and Wilcox. Al coached and volunteered with Little League in Preston and volunteered at the Allan Reuter Centre in Preston, later in life.
Al enjoyed woodworking and photography, with his efforts on display throughout their homes. Al and Maureen enjoyed their time together at the cottage and on extensive trips around the globe; China, Hawaii, Morocco, Galapagos, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, along with innumerable trips to Saskatchewan and England.
The family would like to extend their greatest gratitude to the staff at Saint Luke’s, Paramed Services, the eShift Home and Community Care staff and his medical team at Cambridge Memorial Hospital led by Drs. Healy and Hahn, and all those who allowed Al to spend his final days close to his wife Maureen.
A visitation will be held at Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 7 – 9 p.m. to be followed by a service on Saturday, November 18th at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Luke's Place Foundation Welcome Home Capital Campaign or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
