Zygmunt Koziol beloved husband of the late Antonina, passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Sunday, July 3, 2016. He was born on August 6, 1925 to Helen and Frank Koziol in Zloty Potok, Poland. Zygmunt lived his early teen years in the village as a young, energetic, hardworking youth until WWII. At the age of 15, he left home to join the Polish Underground Army Krajowej. He also served in the Polish Communist Army Kadet School, but after one year quit and re-joined the Army Krajowa in resistance to the communist regime. In 1946, he was forced to escape west where he joined the Polish Brygade in Nuremburg. While in Germany he met his future wife Toni. They reunited in England where they married and worked in the textile industry, until 1952, when they immigrated to Canada. Ziggy worked for CPR, construction and for the CCSB, where, after 35 years he retired. He belonged to the Polish Cdn. Assoc. and stood as President for several years. He was active in the Polish Church, Our Lady Queen of Peace where he served as chairman of the parish council. He was also an active member of the Polish Seniors Club. He and his wife enjoyed camping, fishing and of course mushroom picking, where they at times found themselves in precarious situations. Zygmunt is survived by his children, Teresa, Barbara(Jim), and Richard along with the pride and joy of his life, his grandchildren Samantha and Tyler. He also leaves behind a great-niece Aleksandra; sister-in-law Krystyna; and nephew Grzegorz, the family of his one and only predeceased brother Henryk, all in Poland. A Prayer Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 2111 Uxbridge Drive N.W., on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
