Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Yue Wan Ho, aged 89, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, in Calgary, Alberta. Born on August 19, 1934, in Hong Kong, she was one of nine siblings in the Ho family.
Yue Wan lived a full life filled with family and friends, driven by a devotion to those she knew, in all the places she lived. Everyone who knew her was touched by her care and kindness, which reflected the remarkably good person she was. Despite years of hardship, she remained a positive soul who never gave up, always working hard to help and care for her family, extended family, and friends. She lived in many places throughout her life, planting roots not just in locations but also in the hearts of those around the world.
After schooling in Hong Kong and university in China, her life journey included becoming a physics teacher and rice paddy farmer in Foshan, Guangdong, and working as a seamstress in the factories of Hong Kong. Seeking a better life, she immigrated with her family to Canada, initially working as a seamstress at Sun Ice before building her education to become a geophysicist for Digitech in Calgary in the 1980s. The difficult economic period in Calgary moved the family back to Hong Kong, where she worked at the Po Leung Kuk Orphanage for over a decade, providing guidance, care, and emotional support as a mother to countless disadvantaged children. Yue Wan retired back in Calgary to enjoy dancing, swimming, playing mahjong, and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchild grow.
Yue Wan is survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, Garmar Tung; her sons Hoi Hon Albert (Olena) and See Hon (Zaneta); grandchildren Kacey (Vincent), Mitchell, Radovan, Evzen, and Katrina; and great-grandson Weston Wong.
