Tom married his love, Anne Won Heung Yee, in August 1949 in Canton, China. He then had to move to Hong Kong in 1952 to find a job to support his family. Anne and their three children joined him in Hong Kong in 1956. Shortly afterwards Tom again moved to Canada to find a better life for his growing family.
Starting working in a dry cleaners, he then went from a dishwasher to becoming an accomplished chef working in Yellowknife. Finally earning enough money he was able to bring the family over to Canada and two additional children to the ever growing family.
Because of the extremely difficult life he had, Tom made sure his kids did not experience the same. Tom opened the famous Silver Star café in Red Deer and from that he provided a future for the entire family to whom we are eternally grateful for. Tom also influenced and cared for so many people in his life which he showed in his in actions but not always necessarily in his words, as he never asked for much in return. Thank you all for your kind support over the years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Anne, his children Tony (Jessica), Anne (Allan), Paul (Vivien), Henry and May (Chun); his grandchildren Justin (Scott), Keon (Pam), Herman (Lisa), Jennifer, Pablo, Kevin (Jana), Melba (Adam), Kirk, Jaden, Jenice and Marcus; and his great grandchildren Chloe, Jaxxon, Owen, Taylor and Basia. Tom will also be missed by extended family near and far, and all who came to know him.
A Funeral Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 10:00 am.
