It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Thomas Alfred James at his home in Calgary on Friday, August 30, 2019 at the age of 90 years. Tom’s love of family, singing, and dancing will be carried on by his seven children; Craig (Kathy), Melanie (Brian), Guy (Glenda), Derek (Maureen), Colin (Laura), Coleen (Paul), Pamela; twenty grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brothers, George and Arthur, and his sisters Florence and Peggy. Tom was predeceased by his wife Winnie, siblings John, Pat, Anna May, and his son-in-law Fred, grandchildren Jesse and Lane, great grandchild Carolyn.
Born in Drumheller, Alberta in 1929, Tom spent his early years in East Coulee. He joined CP Rail and enjoyed a 48-year career throughout various towns and cities in Alberta.
Tom got his love of music and singing from his Welsh heritage. There’s nothing he liked better than getting together with his family, enjoying a glass of wine or two and singing and dancing until the wee hours of the morning.
There are many words to define who Tom was. We know him as son, brother, husband, Dad, uncle, father-in-law, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, friend, and neighbour. The world is a less happy place without our Dad in it, he was the best man we knew, and he will be missed. Until we meet again....
A Funeral Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to join us and share a few stories.
