Thelma Margaret Folkard (Phillips) passed away peacefully at the George Boyack Long Term Care Centre on January 15, 2021 after a few months of declining health at the age of 91 years. The family wishes to thank them for their kind care as well as to Silvera Spruces staff where she resided for nine years prior to moving to George Boyack.
Thelma was born on January 13, 1930 to Gordon and Leveitta Phillips in Bowden, AB. She was the second oldest of six sisters. They grew up on a farm west of Innisfail, Alberta. She fondly remembers riding a horse with her sisters to a one-room schoolhouse. She attended The Little Red Deer School House through grade 12 and has many good stories to tell about those years.
Thelma moved to Calgary to work and there met her future husband, Allan Lloyd Folkard. They wed at the family farm September 16, 1950. They lived and raised their family in Calgary. She was a very active member of Renfrew United Church and was a lifelong volunteer at Church and in the Community most notably at George Boyack and the Vernon Fanning Centre. Thelma was very hardworking, noted for her baking, crafts and generosity.
She is survived by and lovingly remembered by her son, Howard and his children, Tyler (Lani), Kelsey (Craig), Brooklin (Braeden) and Earl (Susan) and their children, Karen, Jill (Matt); five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Thelma was predeceased by her husband Lloyd in 2003 and an infant son, George Edwin in 1953. Also predeceased by her five sisters, Bella Hainstock, Georgina Jegou, Beverly Jegou, Elizabeth Phillips and Darlene Tarbay.
At her request there will be no service, her ashes will join those of her husband and son in Calgary at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
