Terry was born and raised in Cornwall, Ontario. He was a comical and mischievous child who joined the Canadian Armed Forces just prior to turning 18. During his service he travelled to several places, one of his favorites being Germany. He proudly served his country and continued being part of the reserves for the remainder of his life.
After leaving the military he worked at the Holy Cross Hospital as a security supervisor for several years, where he met his wife, Suzana. Eventually he started his own security company, which they ran together for over 27 years.
Terry was the ultimate handy man and had a passion for building and restoring classic cars and motorbikes. His final and favorite being his 1971 Porsche 914 Tribute car. He had a feisty spirit and a sarcastic, teasing sense of humor and was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbours. He had a love of spaghetti, oatmeal cookies and had a particular affinity for Eatmore bars and Hickory Stix!
Terry is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Suzana Sostaric-Rutley; his sons Clayton and Allan Rutley; his siblings Wendy Rutley (Byron), James Rutley (Brigitte) and Kathy Sauve (Pierre); his nieces and nephews Kaitlan, Alicia, Tonya, Shannon, Dylan, Christopher, and Tyler; his great nieces and nephews; and his mother and father in law, Sandy and Danny Sostaric.
He is predeceased by his mother Vera Rutley (nee Droppo) and father Gerald Rutley.
A Celebration of Terry’s Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at 12:00 noon.
