Sheila was born the fourth of five children to Edward and Ethel Hesselgrave in Irricana AB. on January 12, 1926. She grew up there loving all kinds of sports and helping in the telephone office where her mother was the agent.
Sheila moved to Calgary in 1947 and worked for A.G.T. for one year before meeting her husband Don Shortt and marrying in 1948. They tried farming at Morrin AB. and later at Madden AB. before moving back to Calgary in 1949 and starting Shortt’s Grocery on what is now Crowchild Trail and 34 St S.W. Her son Doug was born in 1950 and then in 1953 her husband Don passed away in the Polio epidemic of that year. Sheila managed the grocery until 1956 when she sold it and went to work for Trans Canada Airlines in 1957. She worked down town in reservations for 11 years and then moved to the Calgary airport (McCall Field) in 1967 where she worked until retirement in 1983.
Working with Air Canada gave her the opportunity to travel the world which she did. She travelled to most tourist destinations and many out of the way places and had lots of great experiences. She enjoyed and travelled with many of her co-workers at the airport and they remained great friends after retirement.
Sheila is survived by her son Doug and wife Joan, their 3 children Don and Rhonda Shortt, Debra and Dorian Orsted, Trish and Nick Robichaud, and 9 great grandchildren. She was the last of her siblings being predeceased by Madge, Bob Joyce and Ted.
In her retirement years after traveling, she enjoyed gardening, playing Bridge, shopping and visiting friends, fixing up her home and entertaining her grandkids. Sheila was healthy and active till the Lord took her home and always had a zest for life and lived it to the full.
