Sheila Grace Holden

Sheila was a lifelong, native Calgarian. She was born and raised in the community of Crescent Heights where she attended the neighborhood schools and was married in the church just a short walk from the Davis family home. She had many loving memories of growing up with her cherished siblings; Jean, Don, Helen, Marion, Donna, Gordon, Elaine and Marge and would tell everyone how lucky she was to be from a large family and be friends with them all their lives. She was the proud mother of four children; Dan, Gary, Shelley, and Sandra and spent over 50 years living in the family home in Thorncliffe-Greenview in Calgary.

Sheila loved to travel with the long-term love of her life, Frank. They enjoyed many trips in their motorhome across North America and traveled extensively to the Caribbean, Mexico, Fiji, Tahiti, Hawaii, The Cook Islands and New Zealand. Together they created enduring memories of travels, picnics and camping with her family and many friends.

She loved their cabin at Buffalo Lake that she and Frank built and enjoyed for over 40 years. She truly loved her time at the lake with plenty of laughter around the campfire, rousing games of cards and enjoying the birds and animals from the deck. The many friends made during those years held a special place in her heart and memories.

In addition to being a full-time mom, Sheila had a memorable career at the Calgary Herald and volunteered at the CNIB, Kerby Centre, Red Cross and the Rocky Mountain Folk Club.

Sheila was a caring soul, could make anyone laugh, and made friends everywhere she went. She enjoyed countless moments of delight with her children, stepchildren, grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. As a loving wife, mother, nana, sister and aunt, she leaves behind a large family and friends that will miss her dearly.

A celebration of Sheila’s life will be held in Calgary, AB at Foster’s Garden Chapel at 3220 – 4 Street NW on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 10:00 am.
