Sharon Mason (née Smith), born August 23, 1933, passed away on Thursday, August 15th, 2013. Born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan to Ralph and Kay, Sharon was the eldest of six: Penny (Guy Baker), Jim (Vi), Dave (Beverley Reynolds), Paul and Melody (Dick Farmer).
Sharon married Robert Mason when she was 19. In 1960, they settled in Calgary. Their children, Ralph (Karen), Brian (Jane), Laura (John Pierce), Marilyn (Craig McInnes), and Janet (Ken Miller), as well as their nine grandchildren, Jessica (Cameron Barnes as well as their brand new baby and Sharon’s first great granddaughter Kathleen), Allison, Paul, Amy, Stephanie, Rebecca, Sam, Henry, and Jack will always think of her as the centre pole of the family tent.
Sharon loved her work as a music and elementary school teacher with Calgary Board of Education where she taught from 1972 to 1994. She loved to sing, anywhere and anytime: her special joy was to be a longtime member of the Knox Choir. For many years, she helped to organize the Knox CBC Carol Festival, and volunteered with Inn From The Cold.
Many thanks to all at the Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore for their loving care and attention. Although it took so much from her, even Alzheimer’s couldn’t defeat her loving spirit and sense of fun.
A Memorial Service will be held at Knox United Church at 506-4th St SW, Calgary on Friday, Aug 23, 2013 at 1:00 pm.
Tributes in Sharon’s name can be made to Inn From The Cold (110–11 Ave SE, Calgary, AB, T2G0X5).
