Rose Kwei Ching Lee passed away peacefully on the morning of January 2, 2023 at the age of 92 years. Rose was born on July 22, 1930 in Nanjing, China. In the mid-1940’s she moved to Taiwan where she met and eventually married her husband, George Lee. In Taiwan, she worked as a typist until she transitioned to focus on raising and nurturing her household of 5 children.
On September 17, 1979, Rose travelled to Canada with her husband and youngest daughter Doris. Phyllis had arrived in Canada prior and the other siblings would arrive shortly afterwards. Rose supported her family by working as a cook at a Chinese restaurant named Cherry Inn. She showed her love for her family and her community through cooking. She was fondly recognized for her talent of preparing the most delicious variety of dishes. Food was her love language.
Rose Lee will be remembered as a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. After raising and providing for her own children, she spent much of her time later in life caring for, nurturing, and bonding with her 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Rose devoted her entire life to her family and her love was felt by all that she touched. She was the kindest woman, a beautiful person inside and out.
Rose is predeceased by her husband of 71 years, George K.P. Lee. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her son Stephen Lee and grandson Simon Lee (Amber Lo); daughter Phyllis Lau (Mario Lau), granddaughters Angel Lau (Roy Stroeher) and Faith Bruce (Greg Bruce), and step-grandchildren Ben Lau (Jiyoung Lee) and Bonnie Lau (Troy Cavanagh); daughter Louise Lee; daughter Doris Lee (John Tang) and grandsons Daniel Pon and Jeremy Pon; son Stanley Lee (Sharon Wang) and granddaughters Elaine Lee and Charlene Lee; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Those wishing to pay their respects may also do so at a Visitation Ceremony held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Sunday January 8, 2023 at 10 a.m.
