Ronna Yuk Fun Mak

Ronna was born on November 15th, 1950 to Yue-Tam Soo Wan and Yue Yum Chuen in Taishan, Guangdong, China. She moved to Hong Kong with her parents as a child. She graduated high school from Lee Kau Yan Memorial School. Afterwards, she graduated and worked as a nurse at Kwong Wah Hospital. She spent the majority of her career working with the geriatric population.

She married Mak Sek Hong Ronald on January 12th 1977, and they had two children, Karen and Kitty. In 1990, Ronna immigrated to Canada with her family. Through her perseverance and commitment to her profession, she was able to proudly re-license in Canada as a registered nurse. Her hard work was very appreciated, as she contributed greatly to her family. She retired after working many years at Bethany Care Center in 2015.

After her retirement, she traveled between Canada and USA to enjoy spending time with her two grandsons, Ethan Ward and Aiden Ward of Anderson, South Carolina. Ronna was a wonderful and dedicated mother and grandmother, who was always there for her family. She had a true passion and talent for gardening.

Ronna was a two time cancer survivor and fought resolutely with her final diagnosis. She had many friends and was well-loved by everyone that met her. She is lovingly remembered for her smile and her strength, and she will be greatly missed.

Ronna is survived by her husband, Mak Sek Hong Ronald; two daughters, Kitty and Karen (Alexander); two grandsons, Ethan and Aiden; her sisters, Pauline and Sylvia; and her brother Andrew.

She is predeceased by her parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, September 1st, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Kwong officiating.

Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
