Cliff (Robert) Barr was born May 13, 1947, in Winnipeg Manitoba and passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a long battle with ALS on Friday, June 16th. Cliff is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Irene Barr. Cliff’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving wife Louise, brother Stan, two children Trevor and Tracy (Jason), and six grandchildren; Kylie (Brent), Kaidance, Kooper, Connor, Tyler, and Emmitt. Cliff had recently become a great grandfather, welcoming Porter Clifford Dorr into the family just days before his passing. Cliff also leaves behind a large extended family including in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Cliff enjoyed two careers throughout his life, beginning with a 25-year career in the Canadian Armed Forces. Upon his retirement Cliff began a new career, working for various School Boards in Alberta as a Maintenance Director. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing and curling, and made many friends on the golf course throughout his life. Cliff was a devout member of the Catholic Church and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. His love for his family will be most remembered among those who knew him. Whether a member of his immediate family or with friends that became family, Cliff always had a smile and open arms for those he came upon. He will also be remembered for his witty jokes, unconditional love, unfailing work ethic, and ability to love and believe in people more than they believed in themselves.
Services will be held Thursday, June 22nd at 11:00 am at St. Bonaventure Church, located at 1600 Acadia Drive SE in Calgary.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the ALS Society of Alberta in honor of Cliff.
