Dick was born and raised in Calgary and had a long career in the lumber industry. By the time he was 20, he had started his career with Canfor. He left Canfor in 1989 to open his own building materials business, which is still operating today under his son, Darren's management.
Growing up in Calgary, he had many long-time friends, who can tell tales forever about their adventures together. He loved his summers and the time spent at Mara Lake, where he also made many lasting friendships.
Dick was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Bernice and his brother Garry. He is survived by his loving wife Patti, his sons Rick and Darren (Angie), and 2 granddaughters, Samantha and Olivia. His dog Shoko will also miss him very much.
Dick has requested no funeral service, but wanted his family and friends to "have a drink on him". A Come and Go Celebration will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, #285 9202 Horton Road S.W., on Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The family wishes to thank Dr. M. Grinman and all the nursing staff on Unit 94 (RGH) for their care and compassion. We also want to thank his team of out of hospital Doctors who have treated and guided him over the last few years of ailing health.
A family inurnment will take place at a later date in Burnsland Cemetery.
If friends so desire, memorial donations in Dick’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
