Pauline Miller lived a full and vibrant life and died at the age of 99 surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by eight children: Don (Bonnie) Miller, Merle (Randy) Dulmadge, Neil (Annabelle Bradshaw) Miller, Janine (Peter Brown) Champagne, Joan Renou; Larry (Erin) Miller, Maureen (Ron Werbisky) Miller, and Michele (David Levine) Miller. She also has twenty-eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Pauline was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Walburga Riebel; her sister, Madge and three brothers: Pat, Leonard and Tony; her husband, Lyle and three children: Glenn, Greg and Valerie.
Pauline was born in Gull Lake, SK on November 26, 1919 and raised in the Shaunovan area. In 1939 she moved to Regina, SK to study hairdressing and then moved to Moose Jaw for about four years. In 1945 Pauline, her sister Madge and brother Leonard followed their parents to Calgary, AB. Madge introduced Pauline to a strapping young man, Lyle Miller, and after a brief period of courting they were married on November 23, 1945.
In the summer of 1948 Pauline and Lyle bought two lots in Kingsland, right beside her parent’s property and slowly began building their home, room by room. They moved to a larger home in Altadore in 1957. They had eleven children in all.
Pauline was a devout Catholic all her life and a parishioner at St. James Catholic Church since before the existing Church was even built. She belonged to the Catholic Women’s League for fifty years and was also very active in supporting many charities.
Pauline lived in Kimberley for eight years from 1998 – 2006 and when she returned to Calgary in 2006 she lived in the Bethany Care Village where she has lived ever since.
Pauline lived life to the fullest. She loved to socialize and to dance. She traveled all over the world. She loved the outdoors and to go for long walks and admire the scenery. She loved animals, especially dogs (Scruffy, Lucky). She loved to read, loved sports and loved to play bridge. She loved to cook and taught her children and grandchildren all the coveted family recipes like lefsa, bachelor buttons, milk soup, sour cream dumplings, plum dumplings, etc. She treasured her family and friends above all else and that love was returned by all who were fortunate enough to know her. We are happy she is at peace in heaven, but she will be dearly missed.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church, (5504 – 20 Street SW), on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. A Reception is to follow at the Church, followed by a Graveside Service at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Pauline loved color and would love people to wear color to celebrate her vibrant life.
