Paul was born March 21, 1940 in Downeyville, Ontario to the parents of Frank and Mamee Harrington, the youngest of 4 boys growing up on the farm with his three brothers, Tom, Roy, and Bill.
Paul is survived by his 3 children and their spouses Matthew Harrington (Gloria), Catherine Guindon, Paula Fell (Dave); 9 grandchildren Sherri-Ann, Dane, Shane, Brian, Jennifer, Anali, Sheldon, Courtney, Chad, their significant spouses; and 12 great-grandchildren. Paul will also be remembered by his surviving brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews, and additional extended family and friends.
Paul attended Lindsay Collegiate School until Grade 12, moving out West at the age of 19 for work and residing in Calgary, Alberta. Over the years, Paul was a firefighter, truck driver, business manager of messenger companies, commissionaire, and a long-time taxi driver, knowing all the roads and streets of Calgary long before google maps.
Life changed for Paul and his family, in his early thirty’s after he had caught a virus that caused permanent brain damage affecting his speech, moods, thought processes and coordination. This led to ongoing struggles and challenges in his personal and professional life over the years.
Paul was always a force to be reckoned with from an early age, known for being loud and ready for a fight, always wanting, and looking for more out of life, not one who was meant to follow the traditional path life. Paul did not need a lot of material things in his life, he lived in the moment, but was willing to help someone in need. He always dressed in western attire, loved his cowboy hat and cowboy boots, country music, enjoyed a delicious meal, especially BBQ Steak, a cold beer or a strong dark rum and coke.
During his later years he would express his regrets for things he should have done, but he always said he had a hell of a fun time living the life he led.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the DR’s and the Care Teams over the years that provided the care and support Dad required. A special shoutout to all the staff at the AgeCare Sagewood facility in Strathmore. We know that it was not always easy, and you are amazing and incredibly special people to do what you do!
