Martha Lucy Stanford passed away at Rosedale Hospice in Calgary, Alberta after a brave struggle with lung cancer. Martha was predeceased by her husband Melvin Stanford; brothers Irvin (Mary), Don (Aggie), Billy and Bert (Maxine). She is survived by her sister; Gertie (Ray); brothers Art and Tom (Mildred); her daughters Diana, Terry (Lionel), Shelley (Hugh), Sue (Ron), and Maria (Tom); grandchildren Tracy (Robyn), Vikki (Rob), Carlee (Lorne), Jordon (Jen), and Stephanie, as well as ten great-grandchildren. Martha attended school in Glenside and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan before travelling to Vancouver to complete her grade twelve. She married Melvin in 1950. They raised their family and made their life in farming near Zelma Young, Saskatchewan. Martha moved her family in 1972 where she had held several jobs over her 20 year work career, starting at the National Bakery and ending at Northern Telecom. Martha was a very hard worker and her family benefited from her skills in cooking, sewing, stitching and sports. Her passion was sports where she had excelled at curling and golf. Family always came first to Martha, putting their needs before her right until the end. A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday February 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to Rosedale Hospice, 920-7A Street N.W.
