It was sad to hear of Marks passing. I was sincerely happy to hear that he enjoyed a beautiful family life - what a blessing to all of you. I new the younger Mark and will always treasure fun times and thought provoking conversations.

It is with great shock and sadness that we are advised of Mark's passing....Mark and I grew up in Edmonton, played football for the Bonnie Doon Lancers, squash at U. of A., rode our bikes and motorcycles together, and with our wives had many great meals with good red wine....our move to BC and on to the U.S. seemed to distance us but I knew that Mark was successful at whatever endeavour he chose...we are even more saddened by the fact that we were unaware of Beth's passing...to the family we offer our most sincere condolences, and our very best thoughts...To the children, you were blessed with wonderful parents who will always be remembered with a smile and happy memories....Roy and Carole Nicholson, Delta, BC

I knew Mark as my living in The Manor Village at Garrison Woods. We had an informal relationship Based on my various activities in our Manor and our mutual interest in the Peace Park.  He was also well acquainted with my daughter Patti Grier.  He was an absolute gentleman and had my great respect.

I am so sorry to hear of Marks passing, I spoke with him a very short time ago and he was pleased as punch that he was planning another trip with you guys.
I know that if trips and sharing time with his kids and grandaughter could have went on forever Mark was all for it, he is an awesome man and I have learned so much from him where family is concerned.
I know the world just became a little lesser place with the loss of Mark.

I remember the day your mother told me that she was expecting a baby (Megan). Mark was beside himself with joy. He was a wonderful man, very humble and generous. He adored his family. Such a loss. My sincerest condolences to you both.  I had the honour and pleasure of working directly for your father on the CFB Lands.  Mark was a great friend and mentor and was very instrumental in the success of my career in Real Estate. We all knew that this day would come although no one ever wanted it to arrive. You Dad fought his fight with determination and dignity, something that guided him through his entire life. 

Our business connection turned into a friendship, one that I will cherish forever. The times we were together over the past few years, whether it be enjoying a burger and a beer or riding in a golf cart on a sunny day, were filled with conversations and stories and dreams and memories, and I can honestly say that they usually revolved around the three of you, and your mother. He was so incredibly proud of you all, and what you have become. It was truly amazing to me how lucky you were to each share so much time with him in these final years and I know that those times for him were the best. 

I am so truly sorry for your loss and I do know that his values and his life lessons will guide you well and always be there for you as you move forward.

I will remember Mark fondly for the things that he taught me in life.

Mark was an incredible colleague, and will be remembered fondly by all of the people he worked with at Canada Lands. The quality of his work put our company on the map, and we will always remember him as inspirational, courageous and full of vision.

It with great sadness that I learn of Marks passing. He and I were close friends in 1962. At the time Mark was dating Catherine Fraser who is now the head of the Alta Court of appeals. He was kind enough to invite me to their trailer home in south Edm. where we enjoyed a lot of laughs and good meals provided by his wonderful mother. I believe I still have a picture of Mark in my little photo album of the era.

I am privileged to have known Mark through the working with him on the redevelopment of CFB lands. For those that knew and worked with him were touched by his vision, dedication, passion,and integrity. Sustainable communities of Garrison Woods, Garrison Green and Currie Barracks are his legacies to Calgary. Thank you Mark and you will be greatly missed.

Dear Megan and family,
The moving obituary of your dad speaks volumes.  Although I have not met your dad in person, I had many a conversation with him when he lovingly made arrangements to stay with you and Brooklyn in our home in Scottsdale this year.  Although I knew from Judy Pilling that your dad was very ill, never once did he betray his illness or pain.  All he wanted was to have that special quality time with you both in the sun.  A truly remarkable man, loving father and grandfather.

Words can never heal the wound that the death of a beloved parent leaves.  All they can do is to convey is sympathy for your loss and express the hope that the wonderful memories that you built over these years, may help ease your sorrow in the days and weeks to come.  I wish you grace and peace.
