Maggy (Margaretha) Lehenbauer, age 41, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in her home city of Calgary, AB on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 after a fierce battle with cancer. She is survived by her devoted husband, Alex, her cherished two-year-old daughter Luisa, her loving parents Johann and Margaretha, her siblings, Andrea (Derek), Barbara (Trat), Matthias (Lori, Kaleb, Sophia, Theo) and Katrina, and her in-laws, Trajce, Suzana, Donna (Rohin, April, Alexander) and Emily (Eddie). In her life, Maggy was always kind, loving, creative, selfless and honest.
Maggy was born on August 9, 1983 in Winnipeg, MB, and was raised on a farm near Arnaud, MB, where she made many lifelong friendships, enjoyed art, played sports, was an excellent student and was famous for driving the grain cart. Maggy’s Austrian heritage was rooted in her upbringing and frequent trips to her relatives in Enns and St. Florian. This also gave her a love of culture and travel that took her to countries all around the world. She studied landscape architecture both in Winnipeg, MB and in Vienna, Austria where she lived for five years and earned her master’s degree. She dedicated her working career to making the very streets where we all live an elegant, beautiful and natural place to be. Her touch will be forever felt across many communities in Alberta, Manitoba, and Austria within the parks and boulevards that she created for us.
As an expert skier, Maggy fearlessly conquered slopes across Alberta, BC, Japan and Austria. It was a mutual love of mountains that brought her and her husband together that led to the creation of their beautiful family and life where she became a devoted Wife and Mother. The love for her family, especially her daughter Luisa, was energetic and boundless. Maggy thrived at being a mother and it was something she was truly proud of. Maggy, Alex and Luisa had a life filled with laughter, joy and love.
Maggy will be deeply missed and always remembered for her beautiful and vibrant soul that graced the life of everyone she met.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, December 28th at the South Calgary Funeral Centre. A private family internment will be held at a later date.
