Margaret Mantie passed away peacefully on June 2, 2020 at the age of 100. She was born in Calgary, Alberta, and was the youngest of 4 children, brother John, and 2 sisters Elizabeth and Jean. She lived in Calgary, till her moving to AgeCare Sagewood in Strathmore in 2013. She took all her schooling at the Ramsay School.Worked as a riveter at the WW2 airplane plant. Then worked for the Fairmont Palliser hotel in the housekeeping department till her marriage to Oscar Mantie on May 11, 1945. Oscar and Margaret worked together to build homes in the City of Calgary, until the birth of her two children Cheryl and Gail, she was a full time Mom, until returning to work at the Westin Hotel (old Calgary Inn) in 1965, until her retirement in 1984. She moved to Birkenshaw Apartments in 1984, where she developed a new network of friends, playing cards, luncheons, visits over tea and volunteering at the Kerby Centre in the library, she took part in many other activities through the years. She then moved to the Spruce Lodge in 2007 and lived there for six years, until moving to Sagewood. Margaret will be loving remembered by her daughter Cheryl (Marvin) Fisher; three grandchildren Corey Fisher (Michelle Brown), Janell (Keith) Holm and Stacy Scheuerman (Terry Petersen); eight great-grandchildren Evinn (Lyndsay) Beck, Mackenzie Holm, Dustin Holm, Mikayla Brown (Michael Laffin), Keenan Brown, CJ Scheuerman, Brock Scheuerman and Tamara Scheuerman; two nephews Alex (Anne) Sharkey and Jerry (Susan) Sharkey; and eight great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Oscar and daughter Gail. Special thanks to all the staff at Sagewood for their compassion and support.
