All of his friends and colleagues knew him by and always called him Sing. Sing was born and educated in his home city of Hong Kong, where he graduated from the Hong Kong Institute for Information Technology. With his papers as an auto technician in hand, a new wife and son, the family decided to immigrate to their new home in Calgary, AB. Canada. When asked why they would leave the familiar confines of where he grew up with his friends and family, his answer was always “to give his new family the best opportunity to succeed and prosper.”
He excelled as a first rate auto mechanic at Toyota Canada and worked very hard to become a Service Manager in the 1980’s. When he had reached the ceiling of his career, Sing decided he really enjoyed working on and fixing cars for all his family, friends and clients and decided to open his own shop. Freshly graduated from university, his daughter “Wendy” would help him setup his new shop and help him with all the back office work, while Sing would diligently work on his customers cars, bringing them back to health so that they would leave with a perfectly working car. Sing was always there to help anyone, whether they asked or not and will always be remembered by his smile and friendly hello that he would greet anyone with.
On the weekends, Sing always enjoyed a lunch outing with his whole family. They would all gather at one his favorite Chinese restaurants enjoying dim sum, noodles, or congee. After lunch, Sing would always ask if his favorite “fur” grandkids were out in the car waiting for him. Sing would always make sure Maddi, Teeka, Zoey, Buddie and Finny would get a snack and was never left out.
Sing is survived by his wife Yok Kuen (nee Chan), sons Hudson and Wilson and most favorite daughter Wanda (aka Wen), grandchildren Kian Vig and Karissa Ma, daughters-in-law Michelle and Dila and son-in-law Gary.
The family will be holding an informal get together/service to share some stories about Sing and to say goodbye on Monday, November 25 at 10:30 am at Fosters Garden Chapel Funeral Home and Crematorium on 3220 4 St NW, Calgary, AB.
