Leona was born in Wallace Municipality in Manitoba, the first child of eight to Gordon and Lois Scott. She grew up in Butler, Manitoba with her lifelong friends, cousins and siblings. She left home to attend high school and then nursing school where she met her husband and became a military wife and mother.
After moving to Alberta, Leona became a long time employee at Mrs. Willman’s Bakery in Calgary. Her weekends were spent at garage sales where she bought and collected some antiques, housewares, odd and unusual miscellaneous items which she took to sell at the markets.
In her younger years, Leona belonged to a rifle club and brought home a few trophies from competitions. She also brought home some trophies from her most loved sport of curling and summers where spent on the golf course. Later in her life, she would attend card parties four and five nights a week.
Leona was a long time member of Women’s Aglow. She also went to the Remand Centre to read the scriptures and teach bible studies to the detainees.
Leona is survived by her daughters Joanne, Kathy and Lois; her grandchildren Patricia (Johnny), Ryan (Tara), Shasta (Trevor); her great-grandchildren Richelle, Norah, Cayla, Mackenzie, Kelsey, Makenna, Lauren, Reagan; and great-great-granddaughter Iversyn. She is also survived by daughter-in-law LuAnn, one sister Verna and brother-in-law Ottsie and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Leona was predeceased by her son John, her grandson Billy Reynolds, her sons-in-law Dwayne Heintz and Phil Hamilton and her siblings Velma, Georgina, Bob, Harry, Darryl and Gordon.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Living Springs Christian Fellowship, (2304 Yankee Valley Boulevard Southwest, Airdrie, AB), on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
