Katherine was the loving wife of the late (August 15, 2022) Stuart Johnson and the two of them enjoyed almost 75 years of marriage. What stands out was how strong a marriage they had and how loving a couple they were.
She was a wonderful mother to her daughter Elizabeth (Vince), her son Edward (Mas) and grandmother to Jeffrey (Shari) and Lindsay (Alain).
She is predeceased by her grandson Steve, son-in-law Rob, and all her siblings, Yvonne, Gregory and Dorothy. She is fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews.
Katherine was born in Port Hood, NS, on June 29, 1925, to Gregory and Elizabeth of Nova Scotia and England. She moved with her family to Halifax, NS, in the ‘30s.
She and Stuart married in 1947 in Halifax, NS. Stuart’s career required many moves and, together with their two children, they lived in each of the Atlantic provinces, Quebec and finally in Ontario. Katherine worked as a bookkeeper and supported Stuart with his career throughout all of these moves. In 2019 Katherine and Stuart moved to Alberta to be closer to family.
Katherine loved to cook and bake and could often be found teaching Elizabeth these skills. She enjoyed entertaining and preparing delicious meals and kept recipe cards of the meal served to ensure a different menu for repeat guests. She and Stuart loved ballroom dancing and they were master bridge players. In retirement, they cruised the world, thoroughly enjoying the people they met and the landscape and culture of the countries they visited.
Katherine was kind, gentle and generous, always thanking others and often with chocolate. She was a very social person and had a wonderful sense of humour. Katherine was a smart dresser and loved the colour red. Her attire would not be complete without the right jewelry and lipstick.
Katherine’s family thank the wonderful and caring staff at Colonel Belcher Churchill Residence.
Cremation was entrusted to Foster’s Garden Chapel Funeral Home.
