Joy Asman, age 78 years, passed peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2019. She was born to John and Violet Campbell on August 19, 1941. Joy was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and grew up with 4 siblings. Older brother Gordon (deceased), older sister May and younger sisters Margaret and Dorothy. Sadly, Joy lost her father when she was only 11 years old and her mother took in many boarders and foster children and used her sewing skills to support the family. Joy inherited her mom’s skill for sewing and love for helping others from the years she spent growing up in this home environment.
Joy married the love of her life, Donald Asman, on March 28, 1964. Together they spent 55 happy years greatly involved with their children. They were active in the various communities they lived in, the churches they attended, and they spent many memory filled vacations at the cabin at Meeting Lake, Saskatchewan.
Joy kept a busy schedule with hosting family and friends, hosting dinners and serving others was her passion. She loved having guests over for a very good meal and opened their home up to missionaries, family, friends and strangers needing a place to stay.
Joy’s greatest joy in life were her grandchildren. She loved them dearly and was proud of each one. Many an hour was spent reading story books, doing puzzles, visiting the zoo and other outings.
Joy was a godly person, with prayer and bible reading all her life. She prayed daily and it was heavy on her heart that others experience the love of Jesus. She lived her life by the scripture “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Leviticus 19:18
She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband, Donald; her three sons and their wives, Grant & Louise, Kevin & Kimberly, Todd & Sherisse; grandchildren, Blaine, Nolan, Cailey, Cameron and his wife Sheldyn, Jordan and his wife Madeline, and Chelsea; as well as a great-grandson, Thomas.
A visitation will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 7:00P.M. to 9:00P.M.
A Memorial Service will be held at Centre Street Church, Central Campus (3900 2 St NE, Calgary, AB T2E 9C1), on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 1:00 P.M.
