Jon was a long-time resident of the Bow Valley, settling in Canmore in 1981, and later, Banff in 2001. He was an active member of the community, serving as Chairman of the Canmore School Board and Director of Communications and PR at the Banff Centre. For many years he was involved in theatre with the Pine Tree Players and was an avid member of the Canmore Golf and Curling Club.
Graduating from the University of Alberta with a BFA, Jon held a strong love of music and fine arts throughout his life. He was a very creative individual, as was expressed in various outlets, such as his woodworking projects. One of his biggest life passions was cooking, and, coupled with his extremely outgoing personality, he was often hosting parties, events, and gatherings.
Until his most recent years, Jon was a habitual golfer and player of various racket sports. As an adventurous person he regularly traveled, trying new foods, and collecting treasures and antiques along the way. His love for the outdoors had him oftentimes camping and fishing with friends and family. Jon was characterized as a generous and charismatic person until his last days, frequently dropping off home-cooked meals for his neighbors or inviting friends over for a game of cards. He was always known for his stories and jokes.
For 30 years Jon was married to Lorna-Mae Bjorgum, the mother of their six children. Later, he shared a long-term partnership with Sandy Penrose, who remained a close friend.
Jon Alton Bjorgum is survived by his four sisters: Lyndel, Sharlene, Glenise, and Pamela; his six children: Jon (Laura), Kyr (Sandi), Jeffery (Casey), Roddy (Ronnie), Carley, and Jeremy (Jenna); and his six grandchildren: Brady, Morgen, Kyran, Arya, Blake, and Beckett. He was predeceased by his father, Leroy and mother, Marion.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Canmore Golf and Curling Club, 2000 - 8th Avenue Canmore, Alberta, on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
