February 28, 1956 - November 30, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of an amazing father, husband, brother, son, coach, neighbour and man. John Simmonds passed away on Monday, November 30, 2015 in the company of his immediate family at the age of 59 years. John was undergoing a difficult liver transplant brought on by a rare disease. He was in surgery at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton. John was first and foremost a family man. His love of soccer, games, gardening and food (especially his famous captain’s curry) brought people together and created many happy memories for all who were fortunate enough to have met him. Never one to dwell on the negative, John always had a joke ready or an idea brewing to get everyone around him smiling. We fondly remember the many adventures he took us on and his ‘dadisms’ which we would bring up countless times when we wanted to laugh. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife Carol; his children, Matthew (Sarah), Alicia (Brendan), Johnny and Janette; his parents, John and Valerie; his siblings, Trevor (Susana), Sandra (Andrew), Ian (Gina) and Stuart; his granddaughters Dora and Edith; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws, here in Canada and in England. He will be sorely missed. A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Kid Sport Foundation, http://www.kidsportcanada.ca/alberta/calgary/. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca
