He is survived by sons Ray (Debbie) and Peter (Lorraine); daughter Nancy (Chris McCurdy); grandchildren Megan, Lisa, Bryce, and Graeme; nephew Nick; and nieces Leslie, Claire, and Helen. He is predeceased by his wife Milly (2012); youngest son Matthew (1985), and his brother Albert and sister-in-law Pauline. John was educated in England and after graduating from the Imperial College, University of Exeter in Physics, he left to travel the world for work and adventure. He earned a Master’s degree in Geology (1970) from the University of Calgary and continued to work as a geophysicist in Calgary’s oil and gas industry for 40 years. John and Milly built ‘the cabin’ at Silver Lagoon where they eventually retired. John’s last years were spent at McKenzie Towne Retirement Residence, where he received wonderful care by all the staff, and especially Huy, his personal caregiver.
A Visitation will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary, 201, 222 - 58 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 2S3.
