Joan Margaret Clark, born on March 31, 1923 in Balcarres, SK, passed away at the Scenic Acres Retirement Villa, which had been her home for the past two years. Joan spent most of her childhood living in Calgary. Joan left home at an early age when Trans Canada Airlines, now Air Canada, accepted her as an employee in Toronto. She started the grand adventure which saw her meet and marry the love of her life “Jimmy” with whom she spent 68 wonderful years until his death last year. From Toronto, the adventure continued, to Bogota, Columbia, then returning for a short time to Edmonton before settling permanently back in Calgary. Not satisfied with being a homemaker and raising four children she also took on the role of social organizer for the neighborhood block in Rosemont. When the last of the children was safely in school she returned to Air Canada. There she took on an administrative role but it was her informal role of “absentee Mom” to many of the flight attendants, helping them when they were away from home that she will be remembered for. Once she was convinced to leave the workforce she volunteered for various organizations, including the White Hatters at YYC. She never tired of her role of Mother to her four kids and even as adults they were held to the high standards she set. A fashionista to the end, she maintained her beauty and style. However, her shoe style was her trademark, stylish, expensive and never practical! Joan was predeceased by her oldest son Paul Clark and her husband James. She is survived by three children: son Barry (Wendy); daughters Lori (Jim) Kromm and Susan (Brad) Sharun; as well as daughter-in-law Mavis (Paul) Clark. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Lindsay Kromm of Toronto and Lauren (Greg) Rutherford; one great-grandchild, Grace Elizabeth Rutherford; as well as brother, Ches Rickard and family in Vancouver. The family would like to thank Dr. Rebecca Leonard for the care and compassion she provided in the last year. Thank you as well to the caring staff at Scenic Acres Retirement Residence. As per her wishes, no services will be held. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
