Isabel Mary Ramage passed away quietly in the early hours of Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the age of 80. She had been a long time resident of Bethany Care Centre, Calgary and had only recently moved to the Santuari Hospice at the Peter Lougheed Hospital. Born in the Shady Nook area, north of Red Deer, Isabel excelled at academics, loved music and Scottish dancing. Isabel married the love of her life, Eric Ramage in 1951, when they moved to Calgary and started their family. As a wife and Mom, traveling the country with seven young children was done with ease. Packing up the family station wagon or RV for road trips was a regular activity. She traveled and explored many parts of the world, but cherished most her trips to the Hebridean Islands of Northern Scotland. She was an avid gardener, sang in her church choir, and enjoyed crafts, most recently ceramics, proudly distributing her creations amongst the family. Mourning her loss is her very large and loving family; sons and daughters, Greg and Maureen Ramage, Bev and Gord Phillips, Karen Merrett (Harvey Riczu), Diane Davies (Dan Tennessen), Ian Ramage (Leean Porter), Rod Ramage (Max Meyer); 16 grandchildren (Trevor, Ryan, Lucas, Wyatt, Heidi, Janelle, Wes, John, Carlee, Kristin, Ty, Marin, Kayley, Jill, Katie, Teagan ) and their spouses and partners; 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Also mourning is her only surviving sibling, her brother Donald (Nadine) of Red Deer. Isabel was predeceased by her brothers Pete and Mal. She lost her youngest son, Donnie, in 2004, her beloved husband, Eric, in 2006, and her dear sister, Dene O’Connor (Vince), in 2009. Despite very limited mobility in her later years, Isabel was never one to complain. She welcomed her visitors with the most amazing embrace, a warm hug, a kiss to the cheek, and her loving expression, “I pray for you, and God Bless”. At Isabel’s request, there will be no service. Her ‘80 and Still Kickin’ Birthday Party’, held in April, was an incredibly heartwarming celebration of her love and life. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Bethany Calgary for their tremendous care, the Doctors and Staff of Unit 61 at the Foothills Hospital, with a special thank you to her friends and companions from Signature Care, who she came to love as family. In lieu of flowers, and in memoriam, please consider a donation to the Bethany Care Foundation at 1001 – 17th St. N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 2E5 or through www.bethanycarefoundation.com. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
