Born in Winnipeg on March 13th, 1930, Mom grew up in a family with three older brothers. She worked at Eaton’s and spent her Saturday nights at dances where she met our father, Ed. Married in 1952, they moved to Vancouver, then Edmonton, where they raised their three children, Elaine (Brent), Brian, and Colleen (Dave). In 1995, Mom and Dad moved to Arbour Cliff Villas, a unique community in Calgary. She formed many close enduring friendships over the years that were very dear to Mom’s heart.
Fun-loving, compassionate, and caring, Mom dedicated herself to the care of her family and home. In addition to keeping the family’s daily lives running smoothly, Mom would plan, organize, and pack everything we needed for picnics, camping trips, and regular road trips to Winnipeg to visit extended family.
Besides her home life, Mom enjoyed working at Ramsey’s Florists, then Woodward’s, and lastly Edmonton Children's Immunization clinic.
She and Dad had great memories cruising to Hawaii and Alaska and spending winters in their travel trailer in Palm Springs. Later, Mom enjoyed time away with Brian and his dog Chester in his home in La Quinta. Chester was an extraordinary dog, with a gentle spirit who shared a special bond with mom.
With Elaine in Kelowna, Colleen in Winnipeg, Brian was always there to help Mom as he had done with Dad, who passed in 2007. He certainly extended their quality of life with his devoted and selfless care.
Thankfully, Mom is now at peace and free of pain. Her courage and strength tackling life’s up and downs set an example for all of us, even in her final days.
The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to all of Mom’s caregivers. Thank you to the staff at Lake Bonavista Village, who treated Mom with exceptional care and kindness. She formed special friendships with numerous staff and residents. A huge thank you to Lisa Brown for all her help. And thank you to the staff at Southwood Hospice, who brought their hearts to work everyday. Their love, laughter and songs made Mom's final days happy. A final thanks to Dr. O and Karen.
