Born in Dobischken, Lithuainia on May 1, 1928, Gustav Joseph Elbe passed peacefully at sunset on December 25, 2012. He was surrounded by his loving family and leaves behind his wife, Erna, children Ron and Norma Elbe, Susan Elbe and Patricia and Artagnan Rodriguez. He will also be remembered fondly by his grandson Sean with his wife, Aryana, granddaughter Lauren, sister Lydia, nephews Gerry and Gordon, as well as extended family in both Calgary and Germany.
He leaves the world a more beautiful place, having shared his talents putting the finishing touches on many elegant Calgary homes, crafting furniture for lucky family members and devising seasonal decorations that delighted and amazed. He leaves a legacy of building a successful life in the Canadian home he adopted after leaving Germany in 1950, nurturing a family and always putting their needs first. For the warm and compassionate care he received in the last month, there are many to thank: the nurses, care assistants and doctors at the Peter Lougheed Hospital, especially Dr. Rajeev Sharma; home care nurses and everyone at Agape Hospice.
A Celebration of Gustav’s Life will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 66 – 7 Street NE, Calgary on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.
