George passed away peacefully with Joan, his loving wife of 60 years, at his side. He was born and raised in Winnipeg, completing his education at the University of Manitoba with an Honors Degree in Science, and a Masters of Science in Geology. George moved to Calgary to practice Geology in the Petroleum Industry; 15 years in the corporate field, followed by 21 years as an independent consultant prior to his retirement in 1988. George and Joan became Victoria Snowbirds, where they so appreciated the gorgeous display of spring blossoms, wonderful hiking trails, and many cherished friendships. They frequently travelled from Victoria back to Calgary for much loved time with family. The term “handyman” suited George well. As a school-aged boy, George enjoyed wood working, metal working and basic electrical wiring. He broadened his skills and with great attention to detail wallpapered, painted, developed the basement, installed a stone fireplace, laid wood and ceramic tile flooring. George was devoted to supporting Joan’s aging parents and lovingly maintained their home.
George was a wonderful family man, a devoted husband to Joan and a loving father to his daughters, Janice Hendricks and Sharon McManus. George was an adored grandfather to Danielle, Justine, Aimee (Kaiden), Michael and Samantha; and great granddaughter Rylee, the “Smile Maker”.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the nursing staff of Unit 58, and Dr. Maureen Murray of the Rockyview General Hospital for their care during George’s long hospital stay. In accordance with George’s wishes there will be a family service at a later date.
