George passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the Southwood Hospice at the age of 94 years following a brief illness. George was born in Calgary on October 22, 1920 to Daniel and Mary Dominick and grew up as an only child in Vancouver. In 1938 at the age of 17 he joined the army and served in the Royal Westminster Regiment in Africa, Italy and Holland. He survived being wounded three times and returned to Vancouver where he met his wife Teddy (Lois). They were married in 1946. They soon moved to Calgary where they raised their two sons Garry (Janet) and Tim (Debbie) of Calgary. George retired from the Department of National Defense in1980 after 35 years. Both George and Teddy worked tirelessly for decades as volunteers for the Calgary Stampede and the Grey Cup Committee. George was very proud that he had never missed attending a Grey Cup since 1969, his last being 2014 in Vancouver. He also attended every Regimental Reunion in New Westminster up until 2014. George loved life and lived it to the full. He and Teddy travelled extensively, particularly throughout Europe. Remarkably he even took up downhill skiing again and learned to snowboard at the age of 93 years. The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and staff of unit 94 at the Rockyview Hospital as well as the compassionate care of the staff at the Southwood Hospice. George is survived by his two sons and several grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as his special friend and hunting buddy Don Planche. He was predeceased by his wife Teddy in September of 2012. A Memorial Gathering will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Calgary Humane Society, 4455 - 110 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2C 2T7.
