Gee was born in Toy Shan, Guangdong, China on October 10, 1930 to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Yee. She married Foo Sing Wong in 1949. They raised three sons, Lee, Norman, John and one daughter, Lorna. Gee immigrated to Canada in 1958 to join Foo in Vulcan, Alberta. She was his partner in operating the New Club Café in Vulcan from 1961-1978. Moving to Calgary in 1978, she continued to partner with Foo at the Fortunar Restaurant and then The Fortune Inn until retirement in October 2006.
Gee’s (Suzie/Mama) passion was her family. She was always helping Foo cook the traditional Sunday family meals at the restaurant, with the children and grandchildren. Family celebrations for birthdays and holidays were also important events, with the preparation of delicious food; barbecue pork ribs, barbecue roast pork, Chinese stir fried vegetables, rice, Chinese soup, and many others. This was an anchor for our family. The regular customers also loved her cooking and had their “usuals” to order when they came in. She happily distributed lai see (red envelopes) to the children and grandchildren for birthdays, Christmas and Chinese New Year.
Gee is survived by her four children; Lee (Theresa), Norman, Lorna (Alan), and John (Lisa), six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Gee was preceded in death by her husband Foo, her father and mother and her brother Bill Yee.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, the funeral service will be limited to immediate family.
